Question: How soon can I expect delivery of my building?
Answer: Smith Steel’s schedule varies weekly. You need to inquire at the time of purchase. An approximate delivery time in weeks will be itemized on your quote and contract.
Question: Do Smith Steel Buildings come in standard sizes and what size and design is best for me?
Answer: While certain building spans and bay spaces do affect building cost, there is no longer a “standard size building”. With the coming of the computer age, all Smith Steel buildings are custom designed for your personal needs. Although we are here to assist you and make recommendations, ultimately, only you can determine if the building size and design is right for you.
Question: What colors can I get for my building’s roof and wall panels and is their any additional charge for various colors?
Answer: Smith Steel provides a multitude of colors in both Signature 200™ and Signature 300™ finishes. Color sample charts are available upon request. All standard Signature 200 colors are available at the same price. All standard Signature 300 colors are available at the same price.
Question: Does Smith Steel furnish the anchor bolts for my building as part of the contract, or do I have to get them myself.
Answer: Commonly Smith Steel does provide the anchor bolts as an added service. In certain cases customers prefer to get their own anchor bolts. Either way, it is so noted in the quote and contract.
Question: When will I receive my anchor bolt placement plans and anchor bolts?
Answer: Generally within a week after you place the order for your building. This time may vary depending work load and complexity of your building.
Question: How hard will it be for me to erect a Smith Steel Building?
Answer: That depends on how skillful and mechanically inclined you are. The erection is quite simple as all purlin and girt clips are welded on in the plant, not attached in the field. Our unique inset endwall system eliminates a multitude of parts making assembly easier and faster. Each building part is factory marked and cross referenced to detailed erection drawings, and, a detailed erection guide is include with each building.
Question: What if I run into trouble during the erection process or don’t understand the anchor bolt placement plans or erection details?
Answer: No problem. Our design and detail personnel are only a phone call away and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Question: What is I have missing or mis-fabricated or missing parts.
Answer: Before taking any corrective action yourself, you are required to notify Smith Steel as soon as possible. Rest assure that our staff will work as quickly as possible to correct your problem and get you back on track. In most cases correction are made in one or two business days.
Question: Is any down payment required when I order my building?
Answer: Yes, unless special credit arrangements have been made, Smith Steel requires a 20% deposit with the order and the balance is due when the building is delivered to the job site or possession taken.
Question: How do I get started?
Answer: It’s easy. Simply call one of our sales professional on our 800 number and he will obtain information from you about your building. During the conversation he will council you on the best design and methodology to save you time, money and deliver the appearance you want. Once you have settled on the building shape and design, your sales professional will prepare a detailed quote for your review. One you are satisfied, and you give the word to proceed, a detailed contract will be issued.
Question: Who is responsible for the structural design of my building?
Answer: Smith Steel is responsible for the structural design of all the building components. You, however, are responsible for getting all design requirements such as code information and information about superimposed loads such as lights, ceiling, HVAC, etc. to be supported by the primary and secondary structure to Smith Steel prior to obtaining a quote. Smith Steel is not responsible for the design of the concrete foundation, but, will be happy to furnish your contractor or design professional with information to assist them with the design.
